  • Lipid profile
  • Blood glucose
  • Glucose tolerant test
  • Prenatal glucose tolerance test

To start off with the lipid profile, the patient should fast for approximately 12 hours prior to blood collection. Except water no other liquid items should be consumed.

Secondly, the blood glucose that is to be categorized into:?

  • Fasting blood sugar
  • 2-hour postprandial blood sugar (post lunch)
  • Random blood sugar

For FBS nothing should be had other than water for at least 8 hours before the blood is taken.  In case of diabetes patient the doctor will suggest and may ask you to wait until you have had your blood collected sooner than taking your morning dose of insulin or diabetes medicine. Likewise it differs from other tests as well.

In general it starts with a set of samples and a request form. Characteristically, a set of vacutainer tubes having blood, or any other sampling, will turn up to the laboratory in a small plastic bag, all along with the form. Given a laboratory number to the forms and specimens, the specimens, in general will receive the same number often as a marker or label that can be positioned on tubes and form.
